Signul

My clothes are everything to me. I don't have much, but my hand sewn clothes, they make me feel alive. I mend my soul when I fix them.

What makes your style stand out?

I only wear what I make, I don't know how to use a sewing machine. I have to sew everything by hand and all my stitching is on the outside of the hems for the world to see. I have a pair of pants that have been completely covered in over 8 years of patch work. I've travelled in them, hoped trains, hitchhiked, been through the works with them on. I'm attached to everything I make and it shows.

What’s your dream fashion moment?

I don't really have one, I just want to be able to survive doing what I do and thrive. I don't want to be scared of being on the streets again, even though I learned to sew from other street punks. I want to work with famous artists whom I admire, I want to be recognized and appreciated for what I do and to be able to have the resources to teach other people how to sew like I do one day. All you need is some dental floss and a lighter at the end of the day

What would you do with $20,000?

I would invest it into my my art company SsusS, make the prints that I sell into a fully realized street wear clothing line so I can make money, travel, and ultimately teach people how to do what I do. Sewing by hand is a lost art, we don't have to be so wasteful and use cheap materials and polyester blends that we just throw away. People can actually have a relationship with their clothes. I want to show the world that there is more to fashion than vapid consumerism and exclusivity.
