As a drag king/designer, I’m always looking to exaggerate a silhouette. Distinct color palettes, texture variety, and a gothic twist.
We would like to thank you for supporting Duke Van Pyre in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
First and foremost— I’m a drag king, baby! Everything we do is over the top. Secondly, almost everything you see has been designed, sewn, and/or altered by me. I love to combine modern gothic color palettes with historical silhouettes, from all time periods and decades. I can also do it all! Fashion design, sewing, wig work, makeup, props, and more. Everything I create has a distinct point of view, though the 70’s decade is my favorite. I’m known as the disco vampire of Dallas for a reason!
What’s your dream fashion moment?
To one day be able to produce and design my own fashion show on a large scale, with all drag performer models, and to have it widely acknowledged. We’ve always been here, and always will be, and the uptick in drag queen models modeling for large luxury brands recently is inspiring! I’ve been able to put on a small-scale show of 13 models on my own before (the photos on my profile that aren’t of me are all my models and designs!), but I dream of having a runway in a place like a grand cathedral.
What would you do with $20,000?
What wouldn’t I do? Not only would I produce that show mentioned previously, but I’d use it to pay my way to further education in fashion and to kickstart my own brand. Perhaps also a visit to a fashion capital, to experience more points of view from other designers. Design work is truly my dream, and I’d do anything to achieve that!
