Zakiya Goins

I consider myself to be a “fashion chameleon”; I love experimenting with different looks and styles and know how to make a look work.

What makes your style stand out?

I understand the dynamics of fashion; what colors match my skin tone, which fabric cuts look good on my body type, how to accessorize, etc.). I know what I can work with and how to work it to its full potential. I look to many other models to create a basis for a style and can expand on their ideas in extremely creative ways if given the right materials.

What’s your dream fashion moment?

I dream of creating a line of fashion that is aimed at making models (and anyone who wears my pieces) feel amazing in themselves. My line would give anyone a chance to find what really suits them and make them feel completely confident in their own beauty. The pieces would be expansive and available to many people in many parts of the world.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would use a fraction to pay off any debt I’ve accumulated during my time at university, but I would contribute a large fraction of it to supporting citizens in oppressed countries and strengthening poor communities in this country. I’ve always dreamt of largely increasing my income so I can have more to contribute to healing the world one step at a time. My purpose in life is to heal the Earth and the people who inhabit it, and becoming the next big fashion icon can help me get there.
