Sydney Heifler

After I was assaulted five years ago, style became an important way to find agency. It taught me how to love being in my body.

What makes your style stand out?

My style draws from various aesthetics, but people always seem to remember my t-shirts, shoes (I have 75 pairs!) and my use of comic book-inspired pieces.

What’s your dream fashion moment?

I had a really special moment when I was able to interview my friend Trina Robbins about her feminist legacy in comics while wearing a Prada SS 2018 piece that had her art on it. It was a real acknowledgment of the long-lasting reach of her work and it meant a lot to her. I love being thoughtful in how I dress for the women in comics that I interview.

What would you do with $20,000?

There are a few specific pieces I want to collect. For instance, I would love a Jean Paul Gaultier FW 1995 Safe Sex piece—these pieces are important to fashion, queer, comics, and activism history. I would also take my niece and god daughter shopping. Aside from that, I’d pay off my student debt from my master’s degree from Oxford.
