“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” — Shakespeare. “I don’t believe in good taste.” — Gianni Versace.
What makes your style stand out?
When I first moved to New York I worked at a Betsey Johnson; at the first boutique she had ever opened in Manhattan. The walls were a baby pink, with a lingering New York - Pop Art 80/90s grit on them. The herstory. This set my path; my tone and energy. I stay in touch with many of the gals I worked with. We were a vibrant tribe. You can always spot a BJ girl.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
I would say I identify as a “stunt queen” of the sorts. And as an activist. So, the dream fashion moment would involve declaring a “demand” that needed to be said. With a theatrical stunt. Some form of direct action-- pushing forward hope to save American Democracy. Whatever that means at this said moment in time. Most likely in a gown. A boy in dress. A beach? The city streets? To rise up with The People, for The People.
What would you do with $20,000?
My SILENCE = DEATH crop top is a wardrobe staple. So, I would donate a certain percentage of the money to ACT UP. $2 Billion is being cut from HIV funding at the CDC and the NIH, eliminating programs that were instrumental in moving us towards ending the AIDS crisis. I also have a one person play that I have been workshopping/performing for 7 years. This money would allow me to further pursue producing full runs of the work. And, ya know, perhaps purchase Health Insurance.
