Raphaella Godoy

My style is very new punk, because I want to make a statement. It’s a way to show people who you are and what you stand for.

What makes your style stand out?

My style stands out because it’s a combination of clothing and art. I truly believe it’s wearable art. Sometimes goth, sometimes girly, always weird. I love incorporating different colors, textures, and techniques to make it interesting. Including hand beading, laces, ribbons, charms, screen printing and more to give it the most character and details as possible. People immediately know when they see one of my pieces that I made it. It’s new punk, it’s totally me, and I can’t wait to share it.

What’s your dream fashion moment?

My dream fashion moment would be to have my very own Fashion Week show in an incredible venue here in NYC. I just showcased in my first small show with other underground, sustainable fashion designers. It would be amazing to have my own, sell it out, and have my family there to see it. I believe this will happen for me. I’m going to work for it and I can’t wait. I’m excited to even share this.

What would you do with $20,000?

I would invest the money into my slow fashion brand that I run completely by myself. I hand make garments from second hand pieces to give them a new life as well as ones from new fabric I pick. Winning this would help ease the stress of running my small business while also working as a caterer and dog sitter. As I invest all my own money I could put together a fashion show for an upcoming NYFW. Finally, I would pay off the credit card debt I have accumulated from starting my slow fashion brand.
