I am a resilient meteorite in the chaos of the universe. I want to resist all unnatural disasters such as ageism and HIV phobia.
What makes your style stand out?
I woke up one morning looking like Albert Einstein. I feel that I’m an outsider that brings curiosity & joy to folks on the street. I love androgynous clothes with bold graphic designs & bright colors. One of my favorite experiences is when parents pull out their phones and ask if I’m related to Einstein. I always tell them that I was born in Area 51 but then immediately add that I’m a Mexican-American visual artists and author of a children’s book called “My First Book of Proverbs.”
What’s your dream fashion moment?
Having a professional stylist work with me for the opening night of my own art show in a museum and greeting Iman and Donatella Versace and telling Elton John how impactful and healing his body of work has been to me over the years.
What would you do with $20,000?
The award would allow me to work on a second children’s book. Further, I would love to buy art supply to make community-oriented murals/art exhibitions/workshop in the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco in partnership with St. Anthony Foundation and Glide Memorial Church, in Oaxaca, Mexico, with COESIDA clinic, an AIDS organization, and, in Philadelphia with Casa de Duende, a queer-run arts organization, and Galaei, a social justice organization.
