Defying the norm has always been fun. I want to give other alternative and/or queer people the courage to express themselves.
We would like to thank you for supporting Oliver Roszell in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
I like to look otherworldly, like it took magic to put me together, or like I’m from a different time. I take inspiration from goth/alt culture, fairy tales, fantasy games and movies, as well as from fashion icons like Cher and Lady Gaga. One of my main hobbies is cosplaying. I love to incorporate my knowledge from that into my fashion. I’ve also been dipping my toes into drag/burlesque. It’s glamorous and inspiring.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
There’s a variety of fashion, nowadays, yet it seems to be disappointing most of the time. The world needs more fantasy, more whimsy. We need someone to be different enough that they pave the way for people of all genders, of all walks of life, to shed whatever’s keeping them from expressing themselves. The strange will forever be inspiring. I’d like folks to question whether I’m real or not, as if there’s an ethereal glow illuminating from me. People won’t know my gender, and they won’t care.
What would you do with $20,000?
I’d help my mom fix up our house. It has way too many problems, and we’ve been afraid of being stuck in it forever. I’d also finally be able to craft some of my dream costumes. There are so many costumes that I’ve wanted to make, but I’ve not had the funds to do so. I’d be so grateful to have that opportunity.
