My disabilities have dictated most of my life so far - style is my chance to make more of an impression than just my wheelchair
We would like to thank you for supporting Mehara RainbowChilde Tsegaye in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
I tend to borrow inspiration from many sources; from ethnic traditions, to corporate baddie, to cottage core, to the body piercings of pirates! I center all things style around versatility and androgyny as I see it in alignment with my gender. My style is also a heavy combination of access v. aesthetic. Where most can pull off an uncomfortable shoe or a stiff outfit "for the look", the likelihood of that choice costing me days of pain necessitates that I plan accordingly- I still eat tho π
Whatβs your dream fashion moment?
I dream of creating a line of beautiful, discrete, accessible formal wear at an affordable price that can be as readily available to and versatile for disabled folks as those of abled-bodied folks. Additionally, I want there to be diversity and fluidity in the options available to us. Clothing is made to fit the body, not the other way around and clothing is not a luxury item - that doesn't mean we dont deserve luxurious clothes though π€π§π©
What would you do with $20,000?
Not in any particular order but; - Sewing/ Tailoring lessons - Trust fund - Consult current disability fashion designers - Retrofit a home studio - Manufacturing costs - Marketing! (There's definitely more but thats it for now xP)
