As a mixed, queer, disabled woman, I represent the unconventional and like to show that in my style; I am history with an edge.
What makes your style stand out?
I love to mix elements that evoke magic and meaning; ethereal and intense alike. Being palatable was never my forte and I embrace it. The mystery is the chase, isn’t it? I come from a background of mixed cultures, rebels, artists, queerness, chronic illness, and neurodivergence. When I incorporate this into my style, it makes people ask questions; connects us to each other and something bigger. I wear heirlooms, my mother’s folk art, punk elements, anything with a story. Then I add a sparkle!
What’s your dream fashion moment?
Any opportunity would be a blessing, but what would really be a dream is to partake in projects that challenge the narrative of stereotypical and westernized beauty. I am asymmetrical, have struggled with dysmorphia, have been threatened for being queer and manipulated/abused for being a strong woman. Modeling for a designer who also values lifting the voices of the underrepresented would be incredible. And to showcase that in my own way would be an honor.
What would you do with $20,000?
I am a survivor of many things: abuse, natural disaster, income scarcity, and chronic illness. I would use that money to not only support myself and my loved ones through healing/recovery, but also donate to causes that help survivors. The gift of someone reaching out - offering love in any way they can - in a time of need can save a life. Community is everything.
