What makes your style stand out?
Most of my aesthetic comes from inspiration in classic rock roots bridging the gap to modern grunge, punk, and heavy metal. I grew up idolizing unapologetically queer icons like David Bowie;non-conformists like Dee Snider/Twisted Sister. Seeing them comfortable in shattering gender norms 50+ years ago makes anything less than authentic to me feel wrong. I revisit themes of my accessories throughout my fits, almost always don a studded choker and plenty of black with a pop of color to turn heads.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
I’d say it would honestly be one that happens *after* the crowds and glamour are over. My dream moment would be to wipe my eyebrows off at the end of a long day and know that I’ve made an impact on other queer youth who are being told they don’t exist; to remind the world that, “yes. We do. And we aren’t going anywhere.” I want my eccentricity to be what turns heads/challenges the ignorant to reconsider their definition of gender/sexuality. I want others like me to see that we CAN be true to US.
What would you do with $20,000?
In 2019 I survived a 1% chance of emergency splenectomy/open heart surgery at the age of 21. Since then, I graduated from AVEDA with my license in cosmetology. After a few years, my fingers began to swell, my joints began to ache, and I learned that Lupus/RA is hereditary. I would use the money to pay off the debt I’ve accrued since being unable to work in the industry of my certification, and put the rest in savings; something I’ve never been able to have in my life in any serious capacity.
