I love wearing designs that are informed by different cultures, films, artworks, and more. The complexity of style intrigues me.
We would like to thank you for supporting Martin Xie in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
There's a special duality that I explore in my fashion style. Inspired by greats like McQueen, Galiano, and Ahluwalia, I always look for the beauty in savage, raw, and bold expressions. Meanwhile, I make sure to fill my clothes with confidence, which is made possible by the well-tailored and proportionate fit of my pieces.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
Shooting a new CR fashion book for FKA Twigs, Lady Gaga, or Rina Sawayama. These artists don't just occupy my playlist, but also my mood board, inspirations, too. My challenge is to have them do something in fashion they've never done before. Like wearing something they created with a designer. In the age where digital media dominates physical media, the act of being surprised by the next page you flip to and having something that occupies your space is delicious.
What would you do with $20,000?
I would sign up for the Central Saint Martins fashion photography course, hoping to get professional feedback on my portfolio and connect with people who have my dream job. As the Creative Director of my university's fashion club, I would also use some of the funds to champion the designers of our upcoming runway show. Lastly, as someone who's always abroad, I would use the funds to fly back to China to visit my grandparents.
