I am a fashion designer. I have been sewing, up-cycling, and altering my own clothes since I was nine years old. Style is everything to me!
What makes your style stand out?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve never wanted to follow the rules when it comes to dressing myself. Wearing pants as shirts and shirts as skirts. I have always been different. I have never dressed this way to seek attention, but because it felt right. It has always felt safe. I want to show all the young humans in this world that they can wear whatever they want whenever they want and that it is praised. My style stands out because it’s bold and has purpose.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
My dream fashion moment would have been to meet and study under Alexander McQueen. He was truly a genius. He valued bridging artistic statement with fashion and style. Since this tragically isn't possible, I would love the opportunity to work with designers from the Vivienne Westwood team to create a collection entirely from recycled materials and speak out to the world about creating from what we already have on this earth, and give the chance to walk to those who haven’t been seen.
What would you do with $20,000?
I would invest it into building my recycled clothing business, SALVG. It would help me to travel to people all over and help them find their own personal style and voice. I want to teach sewing for free and teach people to salvage their own clothes and garments to create something new, rather than instantly dispose of things and purchase non-stop just to waste. We have so many resources being wasted and a planet that needs us fashionistas to chip in. I will build bridges.
