Leo McKenzie

My mother! I know now that being “dragged” through the shops on Spadina, in the early days and to museums all made a difference to my style

We would like to thank you for supporting Leo McKenzie in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.

What makes your style stand out?

I know what works for me. I know my body. First and foremost, I need to feel comfortable in my clothes. When I am comfortable, I am confident. I have never been afraid of experimenting. Whether it be the latest trend or a timeless piece, I try it on. The same principle applies, if I am comfortable wearing it…then I am confident. This is how I developed my style from a very young age. That is not say, that there has been a misstep or two along the way!

What’s your dream fashion moment?

I would love to watch a show during fashion week, anywhere. The dream would be to have my daughters with me. (Sir Elton John by our sides would bring it over the top). I slip out, and join the runway toward the end as a surprise!

What would you do with $20,000?

It would be shared. The future for our young people seems uncertain. The decision to have a family or buy a home is not a given. For some, putting food on the table or paying rent is the toss of the coin decision each month I have volunteered for over 10 years with organizations that feed people from all walks of life. Food insecurity is still real. I would share with two of these organizations.
