You decide how to exist in the world. It’s a privilege to express myself with clothing and photography. Art is my voice.
We would like to thank you for supporting Laila Tatum in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
I work with thrifted materials (besides makeup and wigs) to explore my own journey in life, or to advocate for causes close to my heart. Last Christmas I designed a photoshoot to reflect the current state of Palestine, the home of Christ, whilst the free world celebrated Christmas.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
I thoroughly enjoy the work of David Lachapelle, he has taken the time and intimate detail necessary to make his subjects glow within a strange and enthralling environment. I want to be taught by someone like that so that I am able to progress as an artist and gain enough notoriety to attract consistent clientele.
What would you do with $20,000?
I would pay off my student loans and finish design school. I had to take a break junior year and was unable to return due to finances.
