the process of finding the means to express oneself is one of the most fulfilling joys of life!
What makes your style stand out?
part of it is relativity. i live in south dakota; rural upper plains of the US mostly dedicated to farmland. by nature, clothing is primarily utilitarian here. bowie said something that resonated with me: “...style is about the choices you make to create the aspects of civilization that you wish to uphold”. my style leans retroactive (aesthetically, not in terms of values), is imbued with nostalgia, and reflects eras and environments that held a certain charm now lost to corporate dominance.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
to me, the only fashion moments truly worthy of admiration are those that embody one’s values. it would be crafted by a very fairly compensated artisan. it would be made of soft, comfortable organic material. it would be well-timed and wildly unique - stopping the observer in their tracks. everything about this ensemble would feel and be genuine! something about twiggy’s looks in mid-late 60s london resonate with me most. check out my "fashion" board on my pinterest (@izzyrcarlson).
What would you do with $20,000?
as a working-class citizen, it'd be wisest for me to save and invest a portion of it. next, i’d donate to The National Native American Boarding Schools Healing Coalition (NABS) & immigration resource centers here in my hometown of sioux falls, SD. i’d also buy a few pieces to start building a wardrobe that more accurately reflects my style - something i haven't been able to do yet due to lack of funds. this opportunity would be everything i need to truly start tapping my creative potential!
