What makes your style stand out?

When I was young, there was really only one thing that my mom and step-mom agreed about -- I should know how to dress so well that with $300 and a plane ticket to London, I could go impress Queen Elizabeth. I don't know how this became the phrase, maybe because I loved Shakespeare and the Queen was my namesake. I don't go for a "peacock" style, but for something creative, classy, easy to move and layer with. I wear a lot of black and grey and 3/4 length sleeves, with accent colors like on a hat.

What’s your dream fashion moment?

In my 9-5, I dress simpler. I spend so much time building theater sets, I go with practical. I was invited to come in and do a talk recently, during a theater rehersal. I wore good black jeans, pewter Doc Marten boots, a textured black top, and a kidleather black blazer. It's a powerful outfit that stands out. This is normal -- I do not separate art from life. On trips I dress with more intentionality, as part of my elevator speech. Dream moments are when other artists compliment my look.

What would you do with $20,000?

I have several pieces already that I've purchased in Milan and Paris, including vintage coats. I would seek out contemporary designers working with classic patterns like houndstooth and chevron, and unexpected pokladots. I would curate a travel wardrobe for all seasons, with interchangable basics, tailored elegance, and bespoke statements. Then I would select pieces for high art events, nights with curators and collectors. I would also commission a few pairs of custom boots to match overall.
