I started making clothes for my dolls when I was very young. As I've grown older I have become passionate about making new items old stuff!
What makes your style stand out?
I started making hats from old sweaters when I moved to Chicago in 1990. I never got used to the cold but I learned to keep changing hats! So I started making hats from old sweaters that were either free in the alley or ultra cheap at the thrift stores.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
Dream fashion movement: Re-generating clothing that is thrown away into new expressive works of art and fashion. Re-Use. Re-Cycle. Re-Create.
What would you do with $20,000?
After returning from Milan with funding that's leftover I'd find work space and get back all those old industrial sewing machines I used to have before I had to go out of business due to the traumatic brain injury I had in 1997. I would go back into making clothes and bring new jobs to people in need. My daughter just got married. Her friends are already having babies. They are saying I need to start making clothes again for their kids. I make art wear. My new company will be called Bella Meow.
