My grandma was a hard-working seamstress. I met my husband who also had a seamstress grandma. We see kindness through self-expression.
We would like to thank you for supporting Dennis Hernandez (and Joe Tojar) in this years competition. Your participation allows us to empower the Elton John AIDS Foundation in their mission to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
What makes your style stand out?
My husband Joe and I express ourselves through fashion in line with our values. We are in-love and support each other’s style journeys. We appreciate both established and emerging designers who have bold ideas and care about equality and sustainability. We wear vintage as well as new responsible pieces, with a focus on garment tailoring, responsible manufacturing and sustainable fabrics. From the lovely Sarah Burton to Carla Fernández in Mexico, we aim to champion the most creative voices.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
My dream fashion moment would be meeting Donatella Versace—and one day collaborating with the house. Gianni was a genius, and Donatella has brilliantly expanded his legacy. As LGBTQ community members, Joe and I admire the Versaces’ commitment to inclusion and causes like the Elton John AIDS Foundation. My husband, an HIV medical specialist, and I both care deeply about that mission.
What would you do with $20,000?
With $20,000, my husband Joe and I would continue supporting the senior care of my 90-year-old+ grandfather in El Salvador. We would also set aside a portion for a rainy day—and, why not, perhaps invest in a few special Versace pieces. Separately, should we be selected as style icons, we would be a cost-effective choice. Joe and I will already be in Rome the week prior to Milan Fashion Week, and with only a short flight and minor schedule adjustments on our end, we could easily make it work.
