I feel style is a vital way to express my personality, inspirations, aspirations, inner life, and creativity as I grow and evolve.
What makes your style stand out?
I am inspired by vintage everything, art, & multiculturalism. As an environmentally minded person I enjoy recycling & up-cycling in both fashion & decor. I also express my most prominent emotion or attitude for the day through my personal fashion, whether it be fierce or demure. The combination of these & a strong connection to all the arts has translated to a riot of colors, cultures & eras within my home & personal style with heavy emphasis on creativity, individuality, & a Bohemian vibe.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
My dream fashion moment would be to go back in time & meet Yves St. Laurent at his home in Marrakech before he bequeathed it to the Moroccan people! I visited his former home in Marrakech which now houses his personal collection of Berber fashions, jewelry, & home decor items. I also saw the museum down the block that displays his life's work. This was a life-changing trip that helped me recover from the disconnection I felt during the pandemic. A trip to Fashion Week would be amazing, too!
What would you do with $20,000?
I would invest part of the $20,000 prize in a course on fashion sketching, with an emphasis on shoe design. John Fluevog is my favorite shoe designer. I feel my style & ethics fit perfectly with his line & company's culture which focuses on kindness & giving back to community. I would love to enter his shoe design competition with proper drawing skills. I would also use some of the $20k to organize a runway competition for up-and-coming designers to fundraise for APLA Health in Los Angeles.
