Style is a form of transformation. Most of my clothes are secondhand or discarded because I like subverting trash and turning it into art.
What makes your style stand out?
My style is trashy, campy maximalism. When styling an outfit, I think about gender not solely in regard to how people perceive me, but I also think about the historic trendsetters who defined and defied gender norms. Often, I am drawn to the fashion of the 70s and 80s because both decades are characterized by queer extravagance and gender fluidity. By channeling these decades through fashion, I hope to not only commemorate my queer ancestors but also celebrate them through creative expression.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
My dream fashion moment is to be able to construct an outfit entirely out of litter I find on the streets and construct another outfit entirely using natural materials I find on a short hike in the woods. I would also like to have an outfit that looks like it is straight out of a Remedios Varo painting.
What would you do with $20,000?
Half of the money will go to my partner in crime and photographer Mac Jack Meadows whose artistry behind the camera always elevates my looks. Some of the money will fund a trip to Hawaii with my grandmother who wants to go there before she dies. Some of it will be used to thrift more clothes. Some will be donated to my favorite local vintage clothing store Talk of the Town. The rest will go into savings or used for living expenses.
