REPRESENT HOME. CHANGE THE WORLD.
What makes your style stand out?
I started representing my community globally as a child in the Invisible Children documentary. They ended the first film with my word, "do not forget about us." And remembering me as a child in Northern Uganda engulfed in war made the world a better place. People worked to make the word a better place because I caught the attention of three young filmmakers from San Diego. They said I was like Uganda's Huckleberry Fin. My style was already American-Ugandan and my fusion is still fly!
What’s your dream fashion moment?
I grew up dreaming of Italy and living next to an Italian Missionary Hospital. I befriended the Ebola doctors. That's how I got the nickname Tony. When I saw a white person I would say "Ciao Caramella." I didn't burn down the Mission but I did sneak in and steal their cheese and how learned to swim sneaking into the Mission pool at night. To go to Italy now would mean I had survived so much. To go to a fashion show would melt my heart like the caramella in the pocket of my childhood. Ciao!
What would you do with $20,000?
Power lines have not yet reached the place in Laliya, Gulu, where my three nephews, Gum, Ojara and Kimara live with my younger brother and wife. I have not installed solar panels on their and we send them to the best school in Gulu. They represent how my family has healed and grown. I want to protect their potential and sense of childhood joy. I want to invest in building the wealth of all our future. We are a family that has changed the world. We are a legacy of love you can see.
