Bakari Hankins

Style is more than clothes, it’s art, it’s heritage, it’s environment, and it’s how I tell my story without words.

What makes your style stand out?

My style doesn’t just stand out—it’s profound. It’s shaped by where I come from: growing up in Black neighborhoods, being raised by educators, and now attending an HBCU. It tells my story and, in a way, even saved my life. Every piece reflects my influences, my roots, my travels, my friends, my curiosity. I’m constantly learning, inspired by everything around me, and my style is simply me

What’s your dream fashion moment?

My dream fashion moment would be to outfit my whole community—the children, the elders, even the troubled—with purpose. I want to give back through my clothes and create something the people I love can be proud of. Through my designs and branding, I hope my work reflects care, pride, and a vision that uplifts everyone connected to me.

What would you do with $20,000?

With $20,000, I’d pour into my clothing designs and brand, but more importantly I’d create a space for the youth around me to learn how to design and sew. Fashion gave me purpose, and I’d want to share that same outlet with them so they can see their own creativity come to life.
