It is my cathartic practice to help me better understand myself and connect with the world around me. My way of rebelling from uniformity.
What makes your style stand out?
I was drawn to style as a kid due to ostracization I experienced being an artistic kid in an homogenous smaller city in Colorado and the ensuing discomfort I felt with myself it brougt. Attempts at assimilation taught me that dissonance with the self can be either augmented or alleviated with the right clothing. I discovered that my style is referential, historical, playful, queer and chic. My style advocates for diversity. I stand out because I authentically and unapologetically express myself.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
As someone who was wanted to be a fashion designer since I was a toddler, I have always had two major goalposts in mind that I work toward every day. The first is my first guest I dress to the Met Gala, a wonderful night of couture excellence. The second is the launch of my brand in New York Fashion Week. These I keep in mind with me any time I feel discouraged or down. I am determined to make these dreams a reality and I know I can do it.
What would you do with $20,000?
After graduating from Drexel University with my degree in fashion design in June I plan to move back to NYC. Firstly, the $20,000 help support my move, ending my weekly commute between New York and Philadelphia for the brand that I confounded with my dear friend. Whilst juggling developing an additional collection for our show this upcoming February I am also creating my senior collection. This award would jumpstart my career by supporting my senior collection, my move, and my brand. Thank you.
