What makes your style stand out?
The efforts of the textile creators from villages creates a style that would make anyone stand out. They work behind the scenes. To showcase the talents and efforts of these unsung heroes (rural craftsman and artisans) is my humble effort.
What’s your dream fashion moment?
I was kicked out of an Indian fashion school in New Delhi for being open about being gay in the 1990s in my early 20s when it was illegal in India. The very fashion teachers deliberately made sure my career was sabotaged. It was a terrible time. My dream moment would be to see that fashion schools are more sensitive towards the LGBTQI kids. I stood up for my community & paid a heavy price for it I left India for the US! My dream moment- to see all LGBTQI kids express themselves freely.
What would you do with $20,000?
Support the Indian village artisans by buying their textiles and other handicraft products from state emporiums.
